What are some great italian restaurants in chicago?

Great but not too expensive! What are some great italian restaurants in chicago?
I know I'm going to kick myself in the pants for this (only because it'll become even more crowded!), but try La Scarola at 721 W. Grand. It's been shown on Check Please! and featured in the local papers. Great food, large portions, fun (sometime loud) atmosphere - my favorite place for Italian.

In the downtown area I'd recommend Bice at 158 E. Ontario - a little pricier, think "upscale", than La Scarola but good food as well.

If you're comfortable going to Evanston, try Dave's Italian Kitchen at 1635 Chicago Ave. More of a family restaurant - big booths, boisterous, etc.

You can also try checking the MetroMix (www.metromix.com) site for recommendations. I've found some pretty good places using it.

Hope this helps!
If you find yourself in the Western Suburbs, Maggianos in Oak Brook (the original) has been our favorite for 25 years. There is a bakery alongside it with that great crusty and chewy bread they are famous for. There is one in Skokie and one on Clark St. in N. downtown. The restaurant is so good. The servings are huge - lasagna looks like a whole meatloaf when they deliver it. You can easily share an entree if you are not a huge eater. The stuffed artichoke appetizer is almost a meal in itself.

It is the one place where you would expect men to walk in with the infamous violin cases. The staff is great, the food is always great, and you will leave feeling stuffed like a cannoli. What are some great italian restaurants in chicago?
Spacca Napoli is real, authentic Italian pizza made blisteringly fast in a wood-burning oven. Their pizza (and Buffalo mozzarella with prosciutto appetizer) is amazing. There are about 12-15 different kinds of great pizza for a maximum of 14 dollars. Most are $9-12 and each serves one person quite comfortably, usually with a little left over for the next day.

Great environment, nice outdoor seating during the summer, and the quintessential Italian pizzeria (it even looks like one!), Spacca Napoli my favorite place to go for pizza. I go there with friends and/or family about once a month, and I live a good 45 minutes away. Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and closed from 3pm-5pm every other day, so be careful! Otherwise, you cannot go wrong.
