Also its called Nacional 27 because the CUISINE is a combination of the 27 Latino countries, its delicious trust me! What are the cool, liberal neighborhoods in Chicago near the cool bars and restaurants?

What area of town do the Cubs play? I see people in apartments just outside the stadium and it looks cool.

BQ: What are the cool lake towns people in Chicago go for the weekend or on vacation? What are the cool, liberal neighborhoods in Chicago near the cool bars and restaurants?
There are plenty of (straight) bars in the neighborhood of Lakeview. The immediate area you are referring to is known as Wrigleyville, and it's a happening, lively area. You really only need to show up to find the bar that suits your style because they all different "personalities". There's everything from sports bars, to higher brow establishments. From what you describe in your post, it sounds like you will like The Hopleaf for sure (my personal fav as well). Jim Barleycorn is another popular one too. What are the cool, liberal neighborhoods in Chicago near the cool bars and restaurants?
The Cubbies play in Lakeview, part of which is Boystown, and that's about the most liberal place you can find in the city. Chicago is on the lake so there's not a lot of need to get away to the lake for the weekend, but some people do go to Wisconsin or Michigan on the weekends for quiet. There are so many places that I couldn't even narrow it down for you. What are the cool, liberal neighborhoods in Chicago near the cool bars and restaurants?
if you happen to be gay then yes the area where the cubs play is perfect for you as the other answer given already pointed out. There are a ton of gay bars right there

How late are you talking about? There's a restaurant in Glenwood named Glenwood Oaks. The food is amazing. Ribs are great, and if you like seafood I highly recommend the Lobster Nippon. They're open Friday and Saturday until 11:00. I took my ex there as one of our first dates and she LOVED it. Hope this helps.Really fancy restaurant around chicago in calumet city or hammond indiana?

I'm 19, which is old enough to serve alcohol in Chicago. This summer, a friend and I will be moving there. I have bar experience (currently work at a sports bar) and am certified to serve alcohol. What are some good restaurants, bars, and/or nightclubs where I could be a waitress, cocktail waitress, or shot girl? I want a nice, busy place where I'll make good money. What are some good restaurants/bars/nightclubs to work at in Chicago?
    UPDATED:

I don't know if your young age would still be a factor, but you could start looking at popular chain restaurants and/or places that attract tourists. They are more likely to have plenty of customers. For example, T.G.I.F. (http://www.tgifridays.com/ ), Rock Bottom Brewery (http://www.rockbottom.com/ ), Uncle Julio's Hacienda (http://www.unclejulios.com/locations.htm鈥?/a> ), Lalo's (http://www.lalos.com/indexhome.html ), Applebee's (http://www.applebees.com ), Cheesecake Factory (http://www.thecheesecakefactory.com/bar/鈥?/a> ), Grand Lux Cafe (http://www.grandluxcafe.com ), Hard Rock Cafe (http://www.hardrock.com ), Landry's Restaurants (http://www.landrysrestaurants.com/pages/鈥?/a> ), Lettuce Entertain You Restaurants (http://www.leye.com/ ), Bennigans (http://www.bennigans.com - has had some health violation issues in the past) and Cubby Bear (http://www.cubbybear.com/daily-specials/ ). Even some movie theaters - like the new Kerasotes ShowPlace ICON (http://www.kerasotes.com/Showtimes.aspx?鈥?/a> ) - have trendy bars now.

See a list here of "hardcore" sports bars - http://www.centerstagechicago.com/bars/s鈥?/a> . See a list here of bars that are more social - http://www.centerstagechicago.com/bars/s鈥?/a> . You could try working at sporting places like 10-pin Bowling Lounge (http://www.10pinchicago.com ), Lucky Strike Lanes (http://www.bowlluckystrike.com/ ), and Dave %26amp; Busters (http://www.daveandbusters.com/ ).

The Tilted Kilt seems to be expanding in the area (http://www.tiltedkilt.com ), although you'd probably have to wear a very skimpy outfit. There are stretches of bars in Andersonville, Lakeview, Bucktown/Wicker Park, Lincoln Park, Beverly (Western Ave.), scattered around Magnificent Mile %26amp; the Loop, and near North Ave. %26amp; Clybourn.

You should search for actual "waitress" and "bartender" job listings via sites like Craigslist (http://chicago.craigslist.org ), Indeed (http://www.indeed.com/ ), Oodle (http://jobs.oodle.com ), SimplyHired (http://www.simplyhired.com/ ), Monster (http://monster.com ), and Careerbuilder through the Chicago Tribune newspaper site (http://www.chicagotribune.com/classified鈥?/a> ). You should research places thoroughly before applying - somewhere like Coyote Ugly Saloon (http://www.coyoteuglysaloon.com/ ) might not work for you. What are some good restaurants/bars/nightclubs to work at in Chicago?

Which restaurant in Chicago has better steaks? The Chicago Chop House or Harry Caray's?

I'm planning a bachelor party for a friend and am looking for a high end steakhouse to take him to. For those who've experienced either restaurant, your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!Which restaurant in Chicago has better steaks? The Chicago Chop House or Harry Caray's?
I know you asked about Haray Caray's and the Chicago Chop House, but some of the best chops I ever had were at Ditka's. I highly recommend looking into it. Further, I have a buddy who had his bachelor party there. They have an upstairs room with a bar where you can suck on stogies - I was there for St. Patty's day a couple years back and it was a good time.

According to food critic Phil Vettel, "DA Pork Chop, as the menu calls it, is going to win a lot of fans. The massive chop is cooked through to medium but remains moist and tender, and the slightly sweet green-peppercorn sauce is a worthy partner."

A great place to start the evening, fa shizzle.

House of Blues....Book NOW!... 2nd choice....http://www.harrycarays.com/index.php?pag鈥?/a>Which restaurant in Chicago has better steaks? The Chicago Chop House or Harry Caray's?
neither, go to either gibsons, or the redhead piano club. trust me, been here my whole life.
Harry Caray's by far. I went there when I visited my mom and it was awesome. Enjoy and Good Luck.
Chop House is good---however I prefer Morton's or Kinzie Chophouse
The Tavern on Rush, Ely's, or The Palm.

Harry Carey's has good potato chips
harry caray's has great food, but the best steak is chop house or gibson's. if you want prime rib, go to lawry's, but it is not really the ambience for a bachelor party.
neither, The Custom House or Keefer's

Both Chefs are great, Shawn McClain and John Hogan and both have steaks that smoke the Chop House and Harry Caray's
    Chicago Chop House or Mortons.
Neither. Try one of these: Gibson's, Morton's, or Gene %26amp; Georgetti's
Try Morton's Steakhouse too... great live lobster service!
haven't been to Harry Cary's in a long time but was just at Chop House last week. I'd recommend (although it is noisy) Gibson's over either of the two. If you really want to spend $$$, try "9"
If one has to choose between these two, then Chicago Chop House wins.

But, in fact, these days the best steak at the best high end steakhouse in town is David Burke's Prime House. Hands down, bar none.

It's also the only steakhouse in town that dry ages it's beef.

    616 N. Rush St., Chicago

    Tel: (312) 660-6000
Since you asked about steak -- I'd have to say the Chop House (between the two choices).

I do like Morton's or Gibson's or even Magnum's for steaks too. The Chop House is right there with all of them.

Harry Caray's has good food to be sure -- but I wouldn't rate it as a top-of-the-line steakhouse.

I like Chicken Vesuvio at Harry Caray's -- one of their specialities of the house and was Harry's favorite meal.
    Gene %26amp; Georgetti's

check out Milwaukee Avenue in Wheeling / Buffalo Grove....a number of really good restaurants all along it..Chinn's Seafood, Hackneys, check them out.

Some others include Rosewood and Black Ram in DesPlaines / Rosemont; Cafe LaCave in DP as well....

A Ton of good restaurants in the suburbs.

Francescas North in Northbrook is my favorite.

Naperville also has several excellent restaurants and is a fun place to walk around with the riverwalk and all the ice cream shops including the ice cream shop that specializes in cookie dough ice cream....in fact every single one of their flavors has some sort of cookie dough in it!
I'm still upset that the barbecue joint Adam's Ribs, supposedly just off the Loop near the Dearborn Street Station, mentioned by Alan Alda on an episode of "MASH," doesn't really exist.
I suggest a small Chinese restaurant called No. 1 Son on North Avenue and Rt. 83. The food is awesome. It is usually all you can eat around lunch time. That is the best of the best.

It is technically in Schaumberg, a western suburb.
Yah its Midevil Times. Its like a dinner theater. You go to a mock castle where you eat big turkey legs and food of the time and watch people joist on horseback and sword fight etc.

If you enjoy that kind of this you can also consider the Bristol Renaissance Fair in Wisconsin. Its by Kenosha. Lots of similar concepts but an outdoor ongoing fair.

Good places to eat in Chicago airport?

I will be in Chicago for 3 hours (waiting for my next flight), and would like to eat good chicago food at the airport(if there is such a thing as good airport food lol).

I really want Chicago's deep dish pizza. Doing some online searching, i found Pizzeria Uno and Reggio's Pizza.

I'm leaning toward Pizzeria Uno because their online menu looks good, but I would love suggestions from people that frequent that airport, or better yet, Chicago folks if these are well known restaurants in Chicago.

Thanks for the help! :)Good places to eat in Chicago airport?
Don't worry about going to a different terminal. The ATS, free robotic tram is quick. With a 3 hour layover there is plenty of time to go to another terminal.

Pizzeria Uno is the originator of deep dish pizza. What you'll get at the airport is not exactly the same as the dish at the original restaurant...which has been serving it's recipe since 1946.

It will be close however. I would try it.

There is a Wolfgang Puck restaurant in terminal 3. It's beyond the security area so if you are not flying on American Airlines it may be difficult to enter with your ticket.

When I was in Chicago I asked the same question... to my Cabbie... and I was pleasantly suprised with the results. We asked for a good japanese place within a specific area (we didn't want to pay too much for a cab ride) and he took us where he drops off the most customers. I think it was called Kamehachi.

    Excellent choice too.

Any good restaurants to host a shower in Chicago South Suburbs?

We, the bridal party, are looking to host a bridal shower at a restaurant for about 30 guests. Does anyone know of any good restaurants that have facilities and menus for a shower luncheon in the Orland Park area? I'm not looking for a church or hall. Chicago Restaurant for Thanksgiving?

We are just in the middle of moving to Chicago and won't be up for cooking for Thanksgiving. Any suggestions for restaurants offering good home style Thanksgiving dinner in Chicago? Thanks!Chicago Restaurant for Thanksgiving?
Is this Chicago proper or the 'burbs?

Many restaurants do a family style Thanksgiving dinner and you get to take home the leftovers. Call some of the restaurants in your area and ask if they offer this.

Another option would be to call a store close to you, Dominick's and Jewel and others do a Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings. You place the order and tell them what time you will pick it up and they will have everything ready for you. I am looking at an ad from the paper from Sunday and Jewel lists "Ultimate Turkey Dinner for $69.99 serves up to 8 people includes :

Fully cooked Turkey, butterball/Green bean casserole/Turkey gravy/Corn bread stuffing or savory stuffing/ Mashed potatoes/ Sweet potatoes/ Cranberry sauce/ Wheat rolls/ Pumpkin pie.

They also list other meals Another Turkey or a Ham or a Prime rib.

So if you want to stay in that may be the way to go.Chicago Restaurant for Thanksgiving?
Well honestly its hard to find a restaurant open for thanksgiving, especially from 4PM and up! Do you know at what time would you and your family be available for a thanksgiving dinner? Well one thing is that suburbs close very early than the city so you forgot to mention were are you located such as City of Chicago or Suburbs. Well, i understand that its going to be a little hectic week since you are going to be moving but honestly are you really considering dinning out for thanksgiving? Can i just give you one tip? They sell preheated turkey at jewel or Dominick's, why don't you purchase one of those and some all ready made mash potatoes, some good bread, preheated pie! Just imagine, a preheated thanksgiving! all you need is a microwave and your set! you can start you first thanksgiving in your new home! you want to make memories during these special times and also its a lot more CHEAPER than dinning out! the person who answer "NIKKI P" is absolutely RIGHT! Visit jewel for that turkey dinner meal!Chicago Restaurant for Thanksgiving?

Go to Pizzeria Due at the corner of Wabash and Ontario! (near the Magnificent Mile). I work there and it's the ORIGINAL, the best deep dish pizza in Chicago. Do some shopping on the Mag Mile and check out Water Tower Place while you're there.

Also you have to go to the Sears Tower Skydeck. (Your guidebook might say Willis Tower, but don't you dare utter the W-word to a Chicagoan or we're liable to knock your teeth out.)

When you're downtown, check out Millennium Park. It's tradition to go take a photo of your wonky reflection in the huge metallic sculpture called Cloud Gate, more affectionately known to Chicagoans as the Bean. While you're there go ice skating at Millennium Park.

A bit further south on Michigan Ave, also highly recommend the Art Institute on Michigan and Adams, and farther down on Lake Shore Drive, check out the Field Museum and the Shedd Aquarium.
Chicago is a great city, here are some places that are worth checking out...

Restaurants: (All of these are pretty affordable)

    - Hot Dougs - unique hotdog place, really good hotdogs like vegan, alligator, rabbit, rattlesnake

    - Lou Malnati's Pizzeria - best deep dish pizza in the world, classic Chicago

    - Cafe Ba-Ba-Rebba

    - Blackbird

    - Big Boy Gyros

    Places to go:

    - Lincoln Park Zoo (FREE)

    - Museum of Contemporary Art

    - John G Shedd aquarium

    - Navy Pier

    - Field Museum

    - Willis Tower

    - Millenium Park

All of these places are great to check out. I've seen all of them, and enjoyed them thoroughly. In Chicago, you can sight see just be checking out the main streets. Don't worry about not being able to fit everything in...its better to enjoy a couple of things than hurry through the whole list.

Hope this help, have fun on your trip!!HELP PLEASE! Will be spending next thurs-sun in chicago, wat are the best restaurants and places 2go 2?
Other answer was very helpful....a couple of notes though....

-LP Zoo is brutal this time of year, most of the animals are "hibernating".

-Blackbird is Pricey but delicious, however next door is Avec which is less expensive and equally delicious.

    Some other recs:

-Big Star (whiskey, tequila, tacos) and The Violet Hour (craft cocktails) .Both are really easy to get to from the Blue Line Damen Stop

*good for the bulls game night, quick ride to the stadium via cab,

    -Purple Pig on Michigan avenue

-Gilt Bar on Kinzie (make reservations now)

-Mercadito on Kinzie (also make reservations)

    Have fun!
Taven on Rush - one of the best restaurants in Chicago. Pricey, but absolutely worth every penny.
Green Mill - Al Capone's old hang out. You can even sit in the booth he used regularly. Cool and different type of thing to do. Interesting stories passed down to the staff and they'll tell you about them.
    Excalliber - Night club, famous!
    Sears Tower

  • Tamarind a good sushi restaurant in Chicago?

I'm going to Chicago in a few weeks.

I heard that there's a sushi place called the Tamarind. It's kind of in a slightly "bad" neighborhood.

But are the sushi any good there?Tamarind a good sushi restaurant in Chicago?
it is goodTamarind a good sushi restaurant in Chicago?
Tamarind is in the South Loop. It's not a bad neighborhood, just a bit quiet compared to the north side. There's lots of restaurants around there and the Chcago Hilton is next door.

That said, Tamarind is decent but not outstanding, in my opinion. It's fine, and it has a lot of other options besides sushi, but there's other better sushi restaurants in Chicago (Tsuki, Oysy, Coast, and New Tokyo are my favorites, personally.)

    Fun/unusual restaurants in downtown Chicago?

I'm from the suburbs, and the day after Christmas, my boyfriend is coming in from out of town, and I want to take him somewhere fun and unusual in the downtown area that's not too expensive. He's big into sports and stuff, but I don't want something really typical like ESPN Zone or whatever...what's a good sports bar type place to go?Fun/unusual restaurants in downtown Chicago?
Lucky Strike. Tons of TVs, bowling, pool and good food. Fun place and very nice looking. It is in the same complex as River East 21 if you also want to see a movie.

    GrillNick's Fishmarket and Grill

Taking the elevator down below street level to Nick's feels a little like plunging underwater in a submarine. Once submerged, you'll find yourself in one of the best seafood restaurants in the city. This is definitely special-occasion dining that attracts an older, power-elite crowd, as well as business travelers with generous expense accounts (jackets are recommended, and shorts are a no-no).

The dining room is a spacious, open affair overlooking an outdoor plaza with an illuminated fountain and Chagall mosaic. Plush booths and loveseats (with individual light dimmers, no less) attract cuddly couples, while the generous space between tables allows you to whisper sweet nothings -- or hammer out a business contract -- without being overheard. Fresh seafood is the focus of the menu, which highlights the specials that are flown in daily. Most of the preparations are straightforward, although some dishes include French or Asian accents (citrus-ginger salmon served with black-sesame-seed-dotted rice). The menu also offers a decent selection for non-seafood eaters, including steak, veal Marsala, and roasted free-range chicken.

The street-level Nick's Grill serves more casual fare, including sandwiches and flatbread pizzas. It's an appealing option for a late-afternoon light meal or for theater patrons in a hurry to catch a show.Where is an All you can eat alaskan crab restaurant in Chicago.?

Stellas has a great turkey plate. It's just your average diner, but the owner makes sure the food is done right, he's a really sweet guy (named the rest. after his mother and either he or his mom run the cash register).

Average price, $10-15 and you'll have to check if they are open on the holiday. Located at Broadway at Briar (1 block south of Belmont).

Definately Jack's on Halstead, which is right at the end of the block, they have a great menu and great atmosphere. Their steak is the most expensive, $28 which comes with lobster mashed potatos. But everything is good there. Also, if you want Mexican, Ceasers on Clark is a great place for mexican, more healthier, great flavor and is right around the corner. Eating around the theater you will avoid the crowds and will have a more relaxing dining experience. There is also Fire Fly and Yoshi's within a couple blocks north on Halstead. Does anyone know how to get your foot in the door at a fine dining restaurant in Chicago?

I like working in the service industry, but would like to make more of a livable wage. I have a lot of experience, but have had no luck...is it really who you know?Does anyone know how to get your foot in the door at a fine dining restaurant in Chicago?
Put a really big spike on the front of your shoe, and make sure it's a wooden door! lol Seriously though, try to get a mangerial position if you have enough experience you should be able to get into it, especially in a big city like Chicago, there are probably new resturants opening all the time! Get in on the ground floor if you want to do really well! Try a site like www.craigslist.com and you'll be sure to find several leads. WHen you go to the interview just be clean and frank about what you expect from them as far as wages, and if your experience matches they'll be sure to consider you favorably! Also maybe try to chat it up with employees (the higher the position the better) at resteraunts you'd like to work at, make friends even! This way you may get the inside scoop, or leads about new positions opening before others even know! Most importantly of all stay positive! Good Luck!Does anyone know how to get your foot in the door at a fine dining restaurant in Chicago?
Like Tru, Everest, Spiaggia? You should appear in person with your resume and letters of recommendation and your letter should state that your major goal in life is to eventually run/manage a top Chicago rest. Also personalize your letters noting awards the restaurant has won and why working there would be your dream job. Write things like you strive for excellence and want to learn from the best in the industry. Make sure your letters of reference are from restaurant management and or chefs, etc. If you can't get into fine dining, build up time at an extremely busy mid-level restaurant so you can at least say- I can handle havoc and a busy environment while keeping profess and level headed - now I want the best. Be prepared to have to work your way up.Does anyone know how to get your foot in the door at a fine dining restaurant in Chicago?
I think it depends more on you work history and experience in what you are looking to be.

I'm looking for the CHEAPEST Chicago restaurants in the following categories

    1. Dim Sum

    2. Authentic Lebanese

    3.Sushi

    4. Budget Steakhouse

    5. Indian

    6. British

    7. Puerto Rican/ Cuban

    8. JewishI'm moving to chicago in the next year and I have a few questions?
Chicago has a neighborhood for all these places. China town is your best bet for Dim Sum. Three Happiness is popular. Budget steakhouse? Not really. Ronny's is a Chicago tradition though. It is a cafeteria style places that has steak specials. It is frequented by LOTS of politicians and local celebrities. British food? NO ONE likes British food. If you must, the Red Lion is the only place I know. I think it's more Scotch. Jewish food can be gotten in Chicago neighborhoods, but you would be better off in Skokie, Il. It is about 20 mintues from Chicago. It is a HUGE Jewish population and they have ALL the authentic fare you are looking for.I'm moving to chicago in the next year and I have a few questions?
Dim Sum in chinatown. I agree with three happiess

lebanese you can get off clark st. and belmont ave. but I can't remember the name

Sushi is all over and reasonably priced.

No budget steakhousesI'm moving to chicago in the next year and I have a few questions?
Can't help you with all of those, but the Chinatown neighborhood (Chinatown/Cermak stop on the Red Line) has most of the cheap Dim Sum restaurants. Best relatively cheap sushi, I think, is Nohana on Broadway in Lakeview (across the street is the better New Tokyo, but it's also more expensive.) Steak is tough - that's kind of expensive everywhere. Indian Garden is decent relatively cheap Indian food. Best cheap Jewish deli is the Bagel.

Charred steak at Magnum's restaurant in Chicago area?

I used to order a charred steak at Magnum's restaurant and it was extremely good. I always wanted to figure out how to cook a steak like that on my gas grill at home, but I don't know how to do that. Also, the steak had an extremely charred surface, but tender on the inside and very delicious.

If you have any information on this like a place to find the Magnum's recipe, or how to cook it that way, it would greatly be appreciated!!!Charred steak at Magnum's restaurant in Chicago area?
You probalby can't get your stove as hot as they can in the restaurant. You'd need to get it screaming hot, and they can probalby get it to about 700潞F or so usign a jet engine of some sort.

The closest you can get is a propane burner, on high, an da cast iron skillet. Season your steak, get skillet super-hot (nearly glowing red) and slap that steak down. Flip after about 3 minute using tongs or spatula (no fork). Give it3 more minutes then remove.

Do not attempt under a patio awning or on a wooden deck. Trust me.Charred steak at Magnum's restaurant in Chicago area?
I don't have their recipe but I can tell you have they get that charred surface, well at least how I do it. I cook my fillet Mignon's by first, letting them rest 30 minutes at room temperature. Season and with a very hot oven safe skillet I sear the steak about 3-4 minutes per side and finishing cooking in a 485 degree oven.

    here is my recipe

http://www.cooking-is-easy-and-fun.com/S鈥?/a>Charred steak at Magnum's restaurant in Chicago area?
Charred Garlic Rubbed Rib Steak Ingredients

2 tb Olive oil 4 tb Dry thyme

Coarse salt; to taste 4 tb Chopped garlic

4 tb Coarsely-ground black pepper 4 Rib - steaks on the bone.

Instructions for Charred Garlic Rubbed Rib Steak:

Combine the oil, salt, pepper, dry thyme and garlic in a small bowl. Using this dry rub to season the beef, brush or rub the steaks with this seasoning mix and let marinate at room temperature for 20 minutes.

Over a hot barbecue grill, or under an oven broiler that has been preheated for at least 20 minutes, cook the steaks on both sides to the desired doneness. Generally, a steak of this size, cooked over a barbecue grill, will be medium-rare within about 8 to 10 minutes (4 minutes on each side) with a blackened exterior and a warm pink interior. Check for doneness by pressing gently with a cautious finger. This recipe yields 4 servings.

Pittsburgh Rare Steak - Black %26amp; Blue

According to local Pittsburgh lore, Pittsburgh steelworkers would often bring hunks of meat for lunch, rather than sandwiches. When lunchtime came, they would slap the piece of steak against a slab of hot metal in the mill to sear a blackened exterior around a red, rare core - a cooking style now known as "Pittsburgh Rare." Even the area bars got into the act, serving up Pittsburgh Rare steak, followed by a "boiler maker," or shot of whiskey and a bottle of beer.

    Ingredients:

Porterhouse, Strip or other excellent cut of steak (approximately 1 1/2" thick

    Salt %26amp; Pepper

    Preparation:

Trim excess fat from the steak and season with salt and pepper. Marinate for four hours, if desired. Grill on high heat, or cook in a really, really hot cast iron pan, turning occasionally, until inside temperature reaches 125 degrees and outside is well browned and slightly charred around the edges. The trick here is the very high heat! Pittsburgh steak is often called "black and blue." It should be practically charred on the outside (black), while the center remains cold and rare (blue).

hope this helps. good luck and enjoy.

You're not looking for a restaurant that serves Thanksgiving dinner are you (turkey, dressing, etc.)? If not, try Buca de Beppo on North Clark street (http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/searc鈥?/a> There's also another downtown (http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/searc鈥?/a> Sure, it's a national chain restaurant, but it's loud, musical, gawdy and sort of fun, which is what when you're celebrating a birthday. And it's pretty inexpensive too. The servings are huge so a serving for one can actually feed two. Order a bunch of stuff and share it all. If you call the one on Clark street ahead of time, you can reserve the "Pope's table", where you can eat in a domed room with photos of the Popes! Or you can request the table in the kitchen itself for seven.

The House of blues might be another good birthday place. Always great live music in the restaurant and a lively atmosphere.

In Chicago, are there any restaurants near the Greyhound bus station?

I may be taking a bus trip in a few months, and it looks like I'll have a long layover there. What sorts of eateries would be within walking distance of the station? Also, does the bus station have any public showers available? That would improve my mood quite a bit.In Chicago, are there any restaurants near the Greyhound bus station?
It kind of depends on whether your layover is at 2:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m. - it makes a big difference.

The Greektown district is a short distance. Come out the Harrison Street exit and turn right (west) and go over the expressway (about two blocks) to Halsted St and turn right (north) and go over the expressway again and Greektown begins. There are fancy (casual attire OK) restaurants like Greek Gardens and the Parthenon and also a lot a small gyros-type shops.

Or you could head toward the Union Station area. If you are there during the breakfast/lunch hours (5:30 am to 3:00 pm), Lou Mitchell's (cash only) at 565 W Jackson is a Chicago institution. Head left (east) one block on Harrison, turn left (north) at Jefferson, go under the expressway about 3 blocks to Jackson and turn right. You will be near Union Station and there will be lots of places to eat in the vicinity.

If you really have a lot of time and want to walk further, you can venture into the Loop (the main business district). Just keep walking east on Jackson (across the river) until you pass under the 'L' (elevated train) tracks. Lots of restaurants there. You might want to try another Chicago institution, the Berghoff. It is on Adams, which is one block north of Jackson, between State Street and Dearborn.

A shower in the Greyhound station? There are not even any signs telling you which gate your bus will be leaving from or any schedule boards. (You just gotta "know.") Be grateful if you find a chair. But at least they cleaned up the place from what the old station was. The pimps and prostitutes are not obvious if you are not looking for them and it is fairly safe if you hang onto your belongings and don't fall asleep.

  • In Chicago, are there any restaurants near the Greyhound bus station?

Can someone help me find a romantic restaurant in Chicago's suburbs?

My fiancee lives in Glendale Heights, and I'm in Michigan. I need some recommendations for a romantic restaurant to take her to for Valentine's Day and other occasions for that matter. I'd prefer to stay in the suburbs, so I was thinking the Schaumburg area, but any suburb would work. I just don't want to mess with going into the city if I can avoid it. Anyway, thanks for the help! Can someone help me find a romantic restaurant in Chicago's suburbs?

There is a place in Orland Park called Cooper's Hawk Winery. I just saw it on a tv show and it looks VERY nice. Not too expensive. It's a bit of a drive from G;emdal;e hgts, but it may be worth it.
The Metromix website is a good suggestion. I'd also try the Chicago Reader site, www.chicagoreader.com. You can select Northwest Suburbs as your neighborhood, select a price range and select a cuisine type.
OK! Buddy, Glendale Hts. Viking Steak house in Winfield has a deal where the guy comes to your table and cooks the steak in front of you. Also you can try Metromix.com and they have many suggestions for Valentine's Day.
Bridget C. beat me to it. My girlfriend and I love the Melting Pot. We have gone there for Valentine's Day a couple of times.
Someone recommended the Melting Pot. I would probably try that. Fondue is romantic. My husband took me to a similar place in Chicago called Geja's Cafe. It was the absolute most romantic cozy restaurant I have been to. Some booths have curtains. It's probably booked up. But check it out. http://www.gejascafe.com/

    Restaurants hiring in chicago?

hello im 26 and am looking to move to chicago. ive been in the restaurant biz for 6 yrs now and also graduated from culinary school. im having a difficult time trying to find out what restaurants, other than various chain restaurants. are hiring. can anyone point me in the right direction?Restaurants hiring in chicago?
Right now is a tough time to find a job, partly because of the economy, but also because it's the slow season...summer's over and things won't start to pick up again until after Thanksgiving and the holiday season.

I've found the best way to find a job in this business is to do it the old fashioned way...pound the pavement. If you're looking for more of a fine dining restaurant, you might want to go to the Zagat website and look for the best restaurants in Chicago. You can also go to Chicago Magazine's website and look up the reader's choice awarded restaurants. Another place to narrow down your choices is to go to Yelp.com, metromix.com or cityguide.com and check out the reader reviews and/or menus. That will help you determine if the restaurant is a hash house or a place that will challenge your culinary skills.

Once you've done your research, call each restaurant and ask if you can fax or email them your resume. Even if they say they're hiring...just send in your resume. Then plan a trip to Chicago and go knocking on doors. Follow up with a phone call to make sure they got your resume and tell them when you'll be in town and ask if you can meet with the manager, chef or whoever you'd be interviewing with.

When I lost my job as a waitress I went through the phone book and wrote down all the restaurants where I wanted to work. Then I divided them up into quatrants of the city. Day one, I went downtown and applied at every restaurant on my list whether they were hiring or not. Day two, I spent the morning in the south part of the city and applied to all the restaurants there, then spent the afternoon calling all the restaurants I had applied to the day before and arranging interviews. Day three, I hit the west side of the city, and spent the afternoon calling all the restaurants I'd applied to on the south side...and so on and so on. It took me less than 2 weeks to find a job, and it was a better restaurant that the one I'd gotten fired from.Restaurants hiring in chicago?

What are some good romantic restaurants to eat at in Chicago?

It's my girlfriend's birthday and I'm looking someplace nice to eat where the total bill for two (with a couple drinks or bottle of wine) doesn't exceed $80. We're staying on the Magnificient Mile if that helps. What are some good romantic restaurants to eat at in Chicago?
Chicago has the best restaurants in the US, and I have been to almost every major city (LA,NY,Hou,Mia etc). Here is a few that won't dissapoint:

    STEAK:

The Chop House is the best. Its on Ontario St, best steaks I have ever had , and I have tried a lot. The only thing , it can get crowded there.

    Latin:

Rumba is a really good place. Its very romantic, cause there is a salsa band playing and the cusine is really good.

    Pizza:

Gino's East, best deep dish pizza by far. There everywhere and well within budget.

    Seafood:

Nick's Fishmarket- very romantic and upscale. Excellent seafood, its gonna be more than $80 though probally $110 or so.

    Itallian:

Itallian Village- There is a reason for they have been in business for 80yrs. Excellent food and romantic.

    Greek:

Greek Islands: On Halsted St. in the middle of Greektown. Within budget and good atmosphere.
The Signature room is a good place and the Cheesecake Factory. I would recommend Ralph Lauren's, but that maybe out of your budget. What are some good romantic restaurants to eat at in Chicago?

    Editorial Review

Warm, inviting and trendy, this Italian restaurant draws a hipster crowd to the growing South Loop.
The $80 price tag might be a little tight, but take a look at these on Metromix.com - it's a great source.

In the River North (Michigan Ave.) area:

    Cyrano - French

    Grotto - Steak, Italian

    Bistro Zinc - French

    Vong's - Thai

If you venture out a little further, there are some great Italian places that are romantic.

Luna Caprese, Rose Angeli's; Vinci (all in Lincoln Park).

The prior suggestions are pretty good too. Look stuff up on Metromix and you'll find something to suit you. What are some good romantic restaurants to eat at in Chicago?
Here's a list of possibilities for romantic dining in Chicago.
well here are a few restaurants i would suggest:

    Geja's Cafe

    Les Nomades

    Le Lan

    Le Colonial

hope that helps..you can search on Google to get more info on these places
All the restaurants that are listed by the others are great, but I am sure they will be more than $80! Unless you go for the Pizza or Greek Town. But if you go to Greek Town, go to Rodity's, they are way better then Greek Islands. Rodity's has complementary valet parking, and you can order appetizers, main dish and a glass of wine and get away for less than $80, but you have to like lamb or Greek Chicken--as those are the main dishes, but the food is wonderful! Gejas is the most romantic, but their average dinner is $40 per person, and that is without drinks and tip. Mia Francesca's is my favorite restaurant--it is on Clark. They also have a location that is called Francesca's on Taylor. You need reservations, and the one on Taylor is a little more intimate and romantic. Their menu is up on the internet under www.miafrancesca.com If you watch what you order, you could probably eat there and have one drink and be under 80 dollars. It is Italian and I am sure your girlfriend will love it Good Luck!
