You're in luck, I've been a hotel concierge for a few years and my son just turned five. I get lots of free invites to restaurats and usually end up going almost exclusively to the ones that are kid friendly...
Wildfire - http://www.wildfirerestaurant.com/ - Me %26amp; my wife's favorite nice place to eat with our son. They have a wicked salad %26amp; steak menu for you, and a kids menu as well...you're probably looking at the mac %26amp; cheese.
Atwood Cafe - http://www.atwoodcafe.com/ - It's a small cafe right on state street. It's classic American with a little bit of upscale/presentation to it like steaks, seafoods and pastas. They have a kids menu as well with things like a PB%26amp; J and baked chicken nuggets. When you walk in you're going to get thrown off because it's small and romantic-looking, but trust me, there's kids in there all the time. Also, the best desserts in the city. Try the banana bread pudding or brown sugar cheesecake.
South Water Kitchen - http://www.southwaterkitchen.com/ - Same chef as the Atwood, same style menu just more on homestyle and less on presentation. It's also much larger than the Atwood so if you're a little concerned about being in close quarters, go the SWK.
The Park Gril - http://www.parkgrillchicago.com/grill/in鈥?/a> - It's in Millennium Park right under the bean, almost the same as Atwood Cafe, just not as well done if you ask me. Still it's pretty nice and they have a kid's menu.
Tavern at the Park - http://www.tavernatthepark.com/ - Keefer's owns this place just north of Millennium Park on Randolph. This place is huge...there is a tavern in the front of the restaurant, but the back of the place is a traditional oak style Chicago restaurant with a few flat screens on the walls. Last time I ate at Tavern with my son there was no kids menu but there was no shortage of things for him to eat from the soups, appetizers %26amp; sides. We ordered the chicken fondu (w/apples), chicken soup and mac %26amp; cheese for him.
Truthfully most of the nice Chicago restaurants are kid friendly, but just call and ask first, they'll be honest with you. The only ones that don't really want kids around would be the obvious ones like Charlie Trotters, Alenia, or Table Fifty-Two...the ones that serve "New American" food, or what I like to think of as restaurants where they like to charge you as much as possible for as little as possible. I can just see then now, laughing at some fool that paid $35 for three ravioli.
Anyhow, this is a good side for Chicago restaurants - http://chicago.metromix.com/ - look up a restaurant, then under "basics" you'll see the age group. If you don't see an age group (such as Alenia says 18+, Tavern at the Park says nothing) kids are okay.
Here is a list of best Restaurants.

http://restaurants1.blogspot.com/Can someone recommend nice upscale restaurants in Chicago that we can take our 2 year old to? Thanks.?
why take a 2 year old to a nice upscale restaurant. I'm sure the child is perfectly well behaved - but what if he isn't feeling well or gets upset and screams. Why would you want all of the other diners to have to deal with that - for some poeple, dining out is a rare treat - maybe they were trying to get away from the kids for one night. This being said, I'm sure there are some nice restaurants that cater to famies - or even upscale places with dining rooms for families.
The Grand Lux on michigan ave. Same owners as the cheesecake factory! Can someone recommend nice upscale restaurants in Chicago that we can take our 2 year old to? Thanks.?
as if this 2 year old is going to look back on it or even remember that special day visiting a restaurant. I can see it know. "oh what joy! Thise were Good Times."
