Why are so many restaurants BYOB in Chicago?

I think it's stupid. I totally hate going to restaurants that are BYOB. You want to have a nice meal with a drink then realize it's BYOB.. Thanks jerks. I hate Chicago and can't wait to leave this corrupt dump of a town. Why are so many restaurants BYOB in Chicago?
Because there may be a limit on liquor licences, or the licence fee is so great people can't afford them. Some states have a limit to the number of active liquor licences. Someone would have to buy an existing bar/restaurant that has a licence already.
The license is too expensive to get to serve Alcohol. Why are so many restaurants BYOB in Chicago?
I would say it's most likely a hold over from Prohibition
It is difficult for a restaurant to get a liquor license in Chicago and it is expensive if they are allowed to get one. You should be grateful that a restaurant allows byob. It is a great idea that allows you to "bring your own booze" and not have to pay huge mark up prices for drinks. Who likes to pay for overpriced drinks? Why are so many restaurants BYOB in Chicago?
That's awesome. I wish restaurants around here would allow you to BYOB. Instead they charge you $4 or $5 for a bottle of beer. For the price of 3 1/2 beers you could have bought a case (24)!!!
Wow! I didn't know that. I guess there are a few pros and cons for it but I would think the pros outweigh since drinks can cost a lot of money especially for a group.
