Everyone has their preferences - particularly regarding cuisine, so the "best", "tastiest", and "most romantic" is going to be very subjective.

On the skyscraper end, the Signature Room is a top pick for many, although that is in the Magnificent Mile area in the John Hancock Center. Also, the Trump International Hotel %26amp; Tower Chicago has Sixteen, a fine dining restaurant on the 16th floor, with views of the Chicago River. See http://www.trumpchicagohotel.com/Food_Wi鈥?/a> .

Japonais Restaurant (http://www.japonaischicago.com/index2.ht鈥?/a> ) - The interior of this place is sensual. It sits along the Chicago River, and the lounge alone is something to check out. The food is cool (but pricey) too; particularly if you like to sizzle meat on a stone. If you're not hungry, just lounge around. I was impressed.

For some excitement, Nacional 27 is the place to eat, drink, and get your Latin dance on. See http://www.n27chicago.com/ . It's pricey with an exciting atmosphere, but worth it for a special night. I've enjoyed a lot of good times there for various weekend outings. Carnivale (http://www.carnivalechicago.com ) has a lively atmosphere. On Valentine's Day, a stilt-walker hands out complimentary flowers and Los Guitarristas perform live music.

For something much quieter and with a white decor: The Parthenon for Greek food is tasty and classy - http://www.theparthenon.com/ (west of the Financial District in Greek Town). Another restaurant is Zest (http://www.icchicagohotel.com/dining/zes鈥?/a> ). You can get a view of Michigan Avenue as well, if you ask for a seat by a window. It's the restaurant for the Hotel Intercontinental. I found the flavor combinations here interesting too.

For Italian - a 4-star restaurant would be Spiaggia (http://www.spiaggiarestaurant.com ) and it has views of Michigan Avenue.

If she likes chocolate, you might want to do some traveling beyond the Loop %26amp; Magnificent Mile areas. Hot Chocolate is a unique restaurant (http://www.hotchocolatechicago.com/ ). Also, Geja's Cafe (http://www.gejascafe.com/ ) features the always sexy fondue and as well as live Classical and Flamenco guitar.

Other than that, you can check out these lists for possibilities:

What is the best/tastiest/most romantic restaurant in Chicago?
Unfortunately, because there are so many restaurants in the city; best, tastiest and most romantic are 3 different things.

For most romantic I'd have to pick Gejas, which is wonderfully dim, cozy and intimate, and the staff really caters to its romantic reputation. On the other hand it's also straight-up fondue, albeit very good fondue. Better than Melting Pot or most other fondue places but still just fondue.

Tastiest is too subjective to really give you any suggestions. If you list types of foods you like we could get into tasty.

Best is easier. Chicago boasts some of the finest restaurants in the country and a couple of the finest in the world. L2O is a newer french restaurant which one of France's best and most famous chefs came out of retirement to open. I haven't eaten there but its reputation is already well established as one of the best newer restaurants in the world.

Another of the best is Tru. One of those take-your-time-and-indulge places, Tru is famous for its degestations. Really, I've eaten at some great restaurants but Tru stands out as the best meal i've ever had. If you want a real dining experience Tru or Alinea, a similarly themed place that's almost as good, are the way to go.

Other of the 'bests" in the city include Everest, Charley Trotter's, Avec, Blackbird and Japanois. All very good and very high-end.

Signature, Cite and the restaurant in Trump Tower are nice places but really exist more for their views than the food itself. Signature is a good restaurant but nothing great, I didn't think Cite was anything to write home about. Spectacular views and very nice bars at all three of these, though.
A very romantic, medium expensive dining room would be in the Four Seasons Hotel. Their Cafe has no dress code, but its small, very quiet, beautifully lit with top notch service and food. When you get to the hotel lobby (in the bloomingdale's building) head towards the main restaurant, but just as you get to the fountain, turn left. The cafe is located there. I'm sure you will enjoy it.What is the best/tastiest/most romantic restaurant in Chicago?
