Number one is talent and experience in managing a restaurant, or being a chef. Number two is enough money to open and furnish to business, or the ability to borrow, plus enough money banked to support the family for six months or more. There are a number of Small Business Administration websites and courses you can take to get started. Contact www.cityofchicago.org for all licensing requirements.Requierments to open a restaurant in Chicago,Il?
You can find everything at http:// cityofchicago.org. They have a business and professionals section. Realize that most restaurants lose money for 3 to 5 years. I have opened at least 7 in my career and only one made money in under 2 years and that was a high end corporate steak house. Take this to heart, I have been a server, bartender, bar manager, general mgr and chef over the course of the last 20 years. All my experience and I have never opened my own restaurant and money isn't a issue. Also when you say south Chicago I hope you mean the suburbs and not the south side of Chicago. If it is the suburbs you need to contact Cook or Will counties for info and regulations not Chicago.
